Gen Z’s Voting Perspective

The voting perspective of Gen Z is quite different from older generations. The way we feel about voting, why we vote (or don’t), and who we vote for often shocks our family members and older members of society. It’s often thought that all young people vote for left-leaning parties because they are idealistic and positive. I’ve heard on multiple occasions throughout my life that to vote NDP when you’re young, is a sort of right of passage. But according to data from Elections Canada, Pew Research, and IPSOS, many of Gen Z do not vote at all. And not only that, but they also have less trust in the electoral process than electors 25 and older. This is a huge turning point from the typical idealistic ways of the under 25 crowd.

To give more perspective on the topic of Gen Z voting, I interviewed Nic and Cheyenne to gain their opinion on voting and insight on their voting habits as Gen Z.
