Gen Z Quick Facts

Doing a quick Google search on ‘Gen Z’ will bring up many sites with headlines like these: Who is Gen Z?, What We Know So Far, and Gen Z vs. Millennial. As more research comes out, and as the generation grows older, there are new ideas and perceptions of this group. But to start it off, here are some quick facts about my generation.

  • We come after Millennials, being born between the years of 1997-2012
    • There is some debate beginning and end, varying by approximately three years.
  • We are the “true digital natives”
    • We’ve been given this term as we are the generation raised on and by the internet, being that we were born during times of great technology innovations
  • We are extremely openminded and accepting
    • Most of Gen Z is supportive of social movements for minority and LGBTQIA+ rights and feminism.
    • Many Gen Z-ers were quite young when Obama was first inaugurated, and same-sex marriage has been legal in Canada for as long as we’ve been here.
  • We have grown up in the age of terrorism
    • Most of Gen Z was born after 9/11, and those who were born before are too young to remember it.
  • We are more socially conscious when making purchases
    • We expect companies to have ethical values and morals, preferring to support companies that match our personal values and beliefs.
  • We are -generally- more careful with finances
    • We have been known to save money earlier, be smarter with investments, and more practical with purchases than previous generations
